Sodium Chloriridite, Na3IrCl6

Sodium Chloriridite, Na3IrCl6.12H2O, is prepared by heating sodium chloriridate to 440° C. in a current of hydrogen chloride. It may also be obtained by reduction of the chloriridate with hydrogen sulphide, or with sodium oxalate.

On concentrating its aqueous solution, blackish green crystals separate out, which melt at 50° C., dissolving in their own water of crystallisation.
